Daybed love

If, say, I had $2500 US dollars burning a hole in my pocket, I would clickety-click my way to Les Indiennes and this Eastern European daybed, (below) is what I would buy. Anoushka you can thank me later. Like when you can speak.

Celebrity homes: Helena Christensen

An oldie but a goldie - Helena Christensen's home featured in May 2009 Paris Vogue. Photography by Todd Selby of The Selby fame. But we'll have to get to that delightful little post another time. Like when I have 7 spare hours and markedly improved writing skills. Click on the images to resize them to "Whoa!" size. It's worth it. Truly.

Cool website: Dailydropcap.com

Dailydropcap

How much are my happy cells jumping around right now! Look! A drop cap! Why, it's dailydropcap.com, a whole website of drop caps! Bet I'm not the only one wishing I was Jessica Hische right now, huh? Hische's list of clients includes Tiffany&Co, The New York Times, GQ Magazine and Oprah's "O Magazine". The ridiculously talented typographer and illustrator explains: "Each day (or at least each WORK day), a new hand-crafted decorative initial cap will be posted for your enjoyment and for the beautification of blog posts everywhere. To use a Daily Drop Cap on your site or blog, follow the instructions in each post and read about the usage limitations. Enjoy!" Isn't she nice to let us play with her toys. Thanks for the HTML bits, Jess. You rock. Visit dailydropcap.com

Bedroom lighting with a twist

I'm thinking hanging pendant lights from the ceiling is, like, so five minutes ago. Loving.

Stylish Homes: Josie Curran

When I think of a houseboat, I can't say this is the imagery that springs to mind, but oh how I wish it was. And it should be! Author Josie Curran lives on this houseboat on an island on the Thames with her boyfriend, their son Herbie, who was born on the houseboat in October, and Otter the dog. Yourlocalguardian.co.uk, which reported on the birth (read the article) explains: "The couple are in the middle of a 12-month experiment to investigate to what extent people can forage and be “semi-self sufficient” in a suburban environment. They set up a blog suburbanforagers.blogspot.com where they explained the idea was to search for food in suburban landscapes and garden their way to home grown suppers." Josie is the author of the book Organised Fun. Buy Organised Fun here (for Aussies), or buy Organised Fun here (on Amazon). You can visit her Organised fun blog here.

The Princess and the Pea doll by Maileg

Maileg
For any of you who can remember the Hans Christian Andersen classic, The Princess and the Pea, this should please you greatly (for those who can't, refamiliarise yourselves with the story quietly over here). It pleased me so greatly I bought one. For my daughter (no, really). So it's a beautiful hand-crochet princess, a wooden bed, 7 mattresses, a pillow, a quilt and 1 darling little crochet pea (my favourite part!). Oh, and it comes complete with the actual "Princess and the Pea" storybook. The Princess is 27cm tall, and the bed is 30cm long and 12cm wide, and the lovely Danish people at Maileg made her. Thank you Danish Maileg people. P to the S Just Google "Maileg Princess Pea Doll" to buy one online, but as I always say, check eBay.com (not the Aussie version) first. You'll nab one for close to half price, including o/s shippping. I did...

Celebrity homes: Amanda Peet

Actress Amanda Peet's home featured in Domino magazine back in January. So many celebrity homes look so "decorated", overflowing with "flavour of the minute" finds, but I adore how this home looks lived in and loved.

Stylish Homes: Michelle Adams

So much to love about Michelle Adams, the former Editor-in-chief of Domino magazine (it folded in February). This is her blog, M.A. Belle. This is her online magazine, Lonny. This is her shop, Rubie Green, specializing in classic, eco-friendly bedding and textiles (Australian orders can be placed here on Rubie Green). And this is her West Harlem (NY) apartment, as featured in the July 2009 issue of Aussie "shelter" mag Real Living.

How refreshing it is to stumble over something as delightful as 52suburbs.com every once in a while on the big wide world of webness. Here's the lowdown: Her name is Louise. She's lived in Sydney for over 30 years but has "never set foot in most of its 600 plus suburbs". Now she's on a mission to explore and photograph one new Sydney suburb a week for a year "in search of the beauty in the 'burb". So far, Louise has covered the suburbs listed below, but adds "I'm open to suggestion too - if you know of a suburb that's crying out for attention, let me know and I'll add it to the list." Wowee. Handy with a camera and so polite.

Celebrity homes: Gela Nash-Taylor

Heard of Juicy Couture? Yeah. Anyone who can make the concept of a tracksuit glamorous deserves to live here. Gela Nash-Taylor, you have my blessing. Read the accompanying (September 2009) US Vogue article.

"John and Gela with their horses, Sid and Etiquette."

"The courtyard, with its exterior view of the Jacobean drawing room."

"Left: The drawing room, with its magnificent Jacobean plasterwork and chimneypiece, Queen Anne chairs from a suite commissioned for the duke of Leeds, and a Chippendale sofa with its original embroidery, forms part of Robert Kime and Patrick Kinmonth's scheme. The curtains are in Robert Kime for Chelsea Textiles "Hardwick" embroidered cloth. Right: In Gela's daughter, Zoe's, bedroom, antique fabric at the windows, antique toile on a Victorian slipper chair, and an 18th-century mirror on the mantel."

"In the Chinoiserie Suite, de Gournay wallpaper and a Victorian four-poster bed with custom hangings."

"John Taylor assists wife Gela with her cricket swing while her son, Travis Nash, and Yasmin Le Bon, wife of Duran Duran front man Simon Le Bon, help to field."

"Left: In Gela's bathroom, a Venetian mirror and curtains made from the queen of Italy's court train. Right: Flowers by Robert Kime."

"Left: An 18th-century needlework sofa against a 17th-century French bargello work in the Medieval Suite. Right: A 19th-century Sicilian chandelier and a harlequin set of Régence bergères in the loggia."

"Left: By the early-16th-century gatehouse, an ancient yew tree clipped to the shape of a peacock, and its inspiration. Right: A peacock in an acacia tree above the croquet lawn."

Celebrity homes: Rachel Zoe

"Rachel Zoe's glass-walled, mid-20th-century home and studio she shares with husband, investment banker Roger Berman, overlooks Sunset Boulevard and is a vibe of minimal bohemian living. ‘My work life is really busy so this is my oasis where I can hang out with my husband. It’s also central, so it’s near my clients and the red carpet events they attend,’ says Rachel." - heartanddesign.blogspot.com P to the S Those dining room chairs? Fendi. FENDI! PPS There are 20 images below, people. This one could be for die hard fans only... PPPS As always, click on images to supersize.
