Hasta la Vista, baby!

Dear Tonic-ettes,
It's no surprise that I love blogging. A bit too much, sometimes. And each and every one of you fuel the fire on a daily, if not, hourly basis, with your visits, your comments, your emails, your links. And I feel like I know you all, which is the warmest feeling, like, ever. For the next couple of weeks, though, I'll be having a little blog-cation. So take care (and don't miss me too much). I'll be back!

Happy weekend!

Happy weekend, you lot. May special friends & candlelight feature heavily. x

OMG! OMG! OMG!

A little teaser from the September 2010 issue of US Elle magazine. Oh lordy. As if I didn't want to see Eat Pray Love enough already. I'm such a sucker for a hippy-nomad-gypsetter vibe... And is it just me, or does Julia Roberts get more gorgeous with age?

Gimme! of the day: Le Souk Leather Butterfly Chair

Dear Santa, (I think you know where I'm going with this one...) Want one too? Buy it here.

On my bookshelf: "Food Fashion Friends" by Fleur Wood

For years, I've sat back and watched (& admired) how Aussie fashion designer Fleur Wood has gradually expanded her empire. From a relatively humble flagship store on Oxford Street, to 6 stores nationally, and now this beautiful book - "Food Fashion Friends; Recipes and styling for unforgettable parties". And it. Looks. Heavenly. Fleur Wood, you're an inspiration.

"Fashion designer and passionate home cook Fleur Wood shows us how to create the kind of event that delights the eye and ignites the imagination, from a wild-child birthday party to a winter solstice fondue dinner and afternoon tea in the greenhouse with the girls."

Table Tonic spotlight: Loom rugs

I honestly thought, between Robyn Cosgrove (go browse her collections, there are no words) & Cadrys, that there wasn't room in the Australian rug market for another desirable, iconic high-end brand. I was very wrong! Enter Melbourne-based Loom rugs (don't you just love their logo?)...

All images Loom

PS Lucy recently blogged about Loom rugs in a bit more depth, over at her incredible blog, The Design Files. Go there. Thank me later.

Cool blog: Jojo's Room

Jojo's Room - Yet another reason I wish I spoke French. Fortunately, the pictures are pretty damn droolapaloozy (that's French for inspirational).

Stylish Homes: Mark Tuckey

I first saw these fairytale-fantastic images featuring the Sydney (Northern Beaches) home of furniture "dude" Mark Tuckey in the June/July 2010 issue of Aussie Harpers Bazaar. Mark's wife Louella Potter is a stylist by trade, so it's no surprise their house looks this perfect - you know, in that laid back, mis-matched, povo-chic kind of way...

All images jmireps

PS Scroll through the "press" section of Tuckey's website to take a closer look at his homes over the years, as seen in a number of decor mags around the world.

Table Tonic reader photo: My Silver Pouffe

"Hi Louise, Just wanted to tell you how IN LOVE I am with my new silver pouffe... it's new home is our lounge room but I am sure to move it around the house. My only problem is deciding if I get another one to match or go with a new colour, decisions decisions! It has so many uses - a seat for my 3 year old daughter, my laptop, to keep cozy by the fire and for our feet. Here is a pic of it - enjoy."

Isn't her living room fab?

Vogue Italia August 2005

There is big, back-issue love in the house... (Wanna go steady, Vogue Italia?)

Stylish Homes: Architect Craig Steely

I have to admit, that this one caught my eye, largely due to the fact that I am currently obsessing over Ligne Roset's Togo Sofa. I neeeed one. Architect Craig Steeley lives in "a conceptually modern house that fits contextually into a Victorian neighborhood" in San Francico. And he has a Togo Sofa. Click here to view the rest of the house.

Ebay bargain of the day: "A great wooden vintage cabinet"

One thing I've learned this week, between the new issue of Lonny hitting my inbox and a fresh Vogue Living hitting my mailbox, is that Shabby Chic appears to be having a mini revival. Which brings me to my dear friend S, who is selling this beautiful vintage "shabby chic" cabinet on ebay, and it's too cheap (current price is AUD$91) not to share with you all. Oh, and it's huge. PS Pickup is from Balmain, in Sydney's inner-west. PPS Ends Wednesday lunchtime (AEST), so be ka-wick!

On my bookshelf: "It Tastes Better" by Kylie Kwong

My local bookstore recently had an eye-catching window display for Kylie Kwong's new book, It Tastes Better - let's just say it involved chicken eggs & straw, but really grabbed my attention. And rightly so. It's a beautiful book, featuring 100 simple and vibrant recipes, created with sustainable produce in mind. I've got a few recipes to share with you over the coming weeks, so stay tuned! First up is "Mum's Butterfly cakes" (the perfect post for a Sunday, right?):

{ Mum’s Butterfly Cakes }
"When I was growing up my parents held many dinner parties, and I always loved to help with the cooking. Mum would delight her guests with 12-course Cantonese style banquets, somewhat curiously completing the meal with an array of very Australian cakes and sweets! Mum’s butterfly cakes have won the hearts of many over the years – and now her gorgeous granddaughter Indy shows every sign of following in her grandma’s footsteps…"

250 g butter
1 cup (220 g) caster sugar
2 eggs
2½ cups (375 g) unbleached self-raising flour
1 cup (250 ml) milk
1 vanilla bean, cut in half lengthways and seeds scraped out
300 ml whipping cream
icing sugar, for dusting
blueberries, to serve
1. Preheat oven to 190°C.
2. With an electric mixer or a wooden spoon, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating each in until well combined. Add sifted flour, milk and vanilla and mix until smooth.
3. Spoon mixture into patty tins lined with paper patty cases. Bake towards the top of the oven for about 15–17 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove cakes from patty tins and allow to cool.
4. Slice tops off cooled cakes, and fill cakes with freshly whipped cream. Carefully cut tops in half and arrange these ‘butterfly wings’ on the cream. Sprinkle a handful of blueberries on and around each cake, then dust with icing sugar before serving.
(Makes 30)
