Our new house: Randoms

You going to get sick of this, but here are a few more "new house" pics I had to share, including: (below) My favourite view...

(below) The second house we've bought with a good-to-go (probably spider infested) cubby house!

(below) The living room is also now carpet-free. We'll live with the concrete slab (which we love, just quietly!) for now and eventually, we'll polish it.

(below) The scary, dirty kitchen. Doesn't look like either here, but trust me. It's both.

(below) I love a Hibiscus! So tropical...

(below) The 4th bedroom was once a doctor's surgery, apparently!

(below) The cute little side gate

Well, that's about it for now. Only 4 more sleeps! Dying.

Our new house: Another (visual) update...

Kind of crappy photos, but not half as crappy as the weekend
it took to get it looking like this!

(above) Main bedroom before and (below) main
bedroom freshly painted, without carpet.
We deliberated for weeks whether or not to paint over the timber, and ended up going for it. While preserving the 50s feel of the house is an enormous priority, we're also mindful of it's proximity to the beach and wanted to introduce a modern, beachy vibe. Or as I mentioned on Twitter the other day "70s surf shack is my new design mantra"!

This will be Mini Tonic #2's room. It's. TINY. She may not even fit.

(MORE) One-of-a-kind tribal carryalls at Table Tonic!

It would be fair to say that I (quite literally!) got goosebumps whilst unpacking the new shipment of Vintage Indian Tribal bags that arrived this morning... All one-offs, all heavily embellished, explosions of colourful texture and no two are the same. Click to view them all.

My new TT office!!!

This little log cabin will, in a mere matter of days, be the new Table Tonic HQ! Situated in the back garden, it was built by the current owners, one of whom had an elderly father who lived in the cabin. It has 2 separate rooms, the second of which will be my "warehouse" (I have a warehouse!!)...

(below) Only metres away is a second log cabin
aka Mr Tonic's GDB Architecture
office (initially, anyway).

A 10 metre commute to work? You gotta love that!

Happy Monday!

Have a super week, Tonic-ettes! PS I'll post a few more pics of the new house soon (some "afters" even!) - We managed to pull up all the carpet, pull down all the dusty old curtains and blinds and paint 3 of the 4 bedrooms over the weekend, so mission accomplished!

Our new house: The "before" shots (Part I)

As I write, my entire body is aching. We've been up at our
new house (!!!) all day pulling down curtains, ripping up carpet and painting since 9am and we only just got home.
It's 8.27pm. I just had to show you the "before" shots I
took as soon as we walked in:

(above) The front room will be the dining room,
kitchen in the middle, living room out the back.

(above and below) The front deck, which we vowed to rip
down initially (Mr Tonic, the architect, says it "destroys the
modernist facade"), but it's a really great sunny spot
(Mmmm coffee and papers on a Sunday morning...)

 (above) Front/dining room

(above) Living room

(above and below) The kitchen is old and scary,
but has plenty of storage...

(above) Out the back garden - love this
part/angle of the house

(above) Audrey promptly found her spot in the sun
and settled down beautifully.

PS And the best part? We get to do it
allll again tomorrow. Yikes.

Anoushka's new room

We're finally moving into our new house next Friday, and I have very much enjoyed lying in bed each night, planning and decorating each room in my head. Anoushka's room decor has been chopping and changing (she'll be 3 next February) and I just couldn't for the life of me commit to a colour scheme or formula or "look". Until I saw these on (the ever-inspirational) Absolutely Beautiful Things:

Red + white + orange + blue... And that wallpaper!

(below) Matching curtains!

{ HOW WILL I RECREATE THE LOOK? }

I'll take this daybed (that's the "head", undercoated.
The "foot" is identical)...

Paint it "Hermes orange" (high gloss)*...
*Undecided on this one, might chicken out and paint it white - then hate self

Throw this "Ink" Mexican Suzani over it (white bed linen)...

Hang these (just purchased from here) prints on the wall...

Paint this little guy solid (high gloss) white...

Chuck one of these (buy it here) around...

Now I just need that delightful red and white wallpaper
and the matching fabric. And what I would only do for
a blue and white ginger jar lamp...

Well? You know I value your opinion - what you
love about it? What do you loathe about it?
And be honest - I haven't done it yet!

On sale soon: Vogue Living Jan/Feb 2011

Oh yeah! Happy Friday indeed! This will go beautifully with this evening's Bombay Sapphire Collins*, thank you very much - Vogue Living's Jan/Feb 2011 issue hot off the press!
*Yes. It's been that kind of week...

Etsy store of the day: lauratrevey

Bright, Bold and Beautiful is an awesome blog, and it's author, artist-slash-interior designer Laura Trevey has an Etsy store, where she sells prints of her amazing watercolour paintings. But it's this one that really grabbed my attention - A custom watercolour painting of your home. How fab is that?! For USD$125, Laura will do an original 11" by 14" (28 x 36cm) watercolor painting of your house, and have it ready 2 weeks after you email her a photo to work from. PS She ships worldwide! Below are some examples (and so the wishlist grows...):

And I only just realised that it's Laura's very own handiwork that's been sitting in my inspiration folder for months, in the form of her delightful "Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab"!

Visit Laura's beautiful website at lauratrevey.com
